Facies analysis, biostratigraphy, and provenance of the late Neogene Seulimeum Formation, Northwest Aceh basin, Sumatra (Indonesia)

A sedimentological, biostratigraphic, and petrographical investigation was conducted on exposed sedimentary rocks in the Seulimeum Formation Northwest Aceh Basin, Sumatra. Sedimentary facies analysis suggests a deep-marine depositional environment consists of an inner fan, middle outer fan to basin plain deposits. New foraminiferal data designated late Miocene early Pleistocene age for studied rock unit, equivalent N17 N21 zone, with paleobathymetry bathyal environment. Petrographically, sandstone is included as subarkose, sublithic arenite, lithic or classified litho-quartzose, feldspatho-litho-quartzose, litho-feldspatho-quartzose. Provenance that origin sandstones from arc orogen sources. Furthermore, it concluded development GSF zone Neogene controls formation setting. The west-south-west part fault footwall (the Barisan Mountains), main high area source material consisting dominantly Woyla Group, some contributions Bentaro volcanic Paleogene sediments.
